How to Become a Certified Pharmacy Technician
A lot of pharmacy technicians are looking for certification as a standard that is used to discern the professional’s knowledge. It is now regarded as an important component that is mandatory in more than 30 states. Notwithstanding the state requirements, certification is quite enormous. Employers play a great role when it comes to certification. This is because when you have hands-on experience, it demonstrates your knowledge and commitment to the pharmacy industry. The following are steps to follow to become certified.
Determine Eligibility
As an applicant, you have to determine whether you are eligible to become a certified pharmacy technician. You should note that there is no pharmacy experience required, but you must have a high school diploma and the degree of education needed such as an associate degree. Moreover, you must disclose your criminal history and past actions were taken against you by the relevant pharmacy board. Some offenses such as drug-related crimes are treated seriously.
Prepare for the Exam
The most important thing is to pass your pharmacy technician certification testing. You need to prepare for the exam. Start by enrolling in a relevant training course, particularly one accredited by a reputable organization. There are different resources available that can help candidates study, including smartphone apps, flashcards, and books. Moreover, you can find practice exam online and even the past examination papers.
Apply Online
If you feel you have prepared adequately and ready to sit for the examination, you need to register online with PTCB. Usually, you must pay an application fee. Nowadays, a lot of pharmacies sponsor their employees and even pay the required fee for them. If you need special testing accommodation, you must request the same during the application. After your application is approved, you will have 90 days to prepare and schedule your exams. If you want to cancel the exam, you must do so within 24 hours before the time of the exam. If you want to withdraw the application, you must do so within 90 days.
Take Your Exams
Just like other exams, you must ensure you have a good night sleep before sitting for exams. On the day of examinations, arrive 30 minutes before the appointment and get valid identification documents. All the other items will be stored in the locker. After 3 weeks you will get the official results. If you pass the exam, you will get your certificate after 6 weeks. However, if you fail exams, you must reapply and pay the required fee.
